Chanting, a means to God, self and serenity.
Be it at Benedictine Abbey, St Anselm's at 6:20 in the morning with chanting Psalms to start the day as those who've lived by the 12 steps have done for over 1,000 years, or in Thailand or Tibet, Native Americans in a hogan or in Temple in Israel, or for Muslims as the sun rises to Eskimos, chanting is a part of the human nature. Here we have some examples...can we learn form this? Should it be a part of an 11th step? Can I do this if even on a 1st step? What is a mantra? See: The Twelve Steps c 2012

The healing starts here; we can't go any further until we've worked this step. Some ... choose to work Step One in a more systematic fashion. Our reasons for formally working Step One will vary from member to member...
Whatever the case, it's time to do some step work: to engage in some concrete activity that will help us find more freedom... Our hope is to internalize the principles of Step One, to deepen our surrender, to make the principles a fundamental part of who we are. (Per one 12 step fellowships literature)
